What type of candidates are we looking for?
A difficult question to answer as there are so many different qualities, capabilities and levels of experience for each and every applicant. Regardless of your industry, experience, previous or current roles, one main factor is required for success in each and every position within a company – ‘Attention To Detail’. You apply yourself, concentrate and complete your responsibilities that your role demands.
But before all of that, your journey to reach your next position begins with your CV and it needs to be a good one as this is your advert of yourself for the job you are interested in securing. Firstly, ensure it is relevant and up to date, (attention to detail) not just with your current or last job, but also the content and information within such as a new email or mobile number.
Keep it simple, concise and appealing with no gimmicks. No one wants to read every single duty and act you complete in one or all of your previous roles, just the relevant concise parts. Bullet point your job’s responsibilities and make sure the time you spent at that company is also clear. If you are serious about being successful in securing your next job, you will ensure that this information is accurate and the last job on your CV is your current or most recent position.
When you think your completed CV is ready, ask a family member or friend to read through it, this really helps you with a final review and edit if necessary before you submit it for a new job application.
Be responsive. If you answered a job advert and applied, be ready to receive a phone call or email from the employer or agency and ensure you answer or respond in a timely manner.
Finally, be sure to read the job advert and criteria to see if your skill set and experience match the requirements of the job you are applying for. Or do you have transferable skills from a previous similar role? Be honest with yourself. If a company is looking for an experienced person who has worked in that role with another company and you haven’t got that experience, it is highly likely you will not be considered, so to help reduce your disappointment and save time, apply for roles best suited to you and your experience. You will find your success rate will be much higher.
We look forward to hearing from you.
